Lighting Project Westfields Riccarton Mall final touches....

It's been some time since Customlight completed some spectacular light fittings at Christchurch's Riccarton Mall. We always wondered about the last three lights and when they would appear. As tradesmen furiously scuttle around behind the scenes the new mall extensions are largely finished and the standard is very high. These light fittings appeared last week and were one of the finishing touches upstairs. We loved the effect and were thrilled to be a small part of such a massive construction project.

Engineering News Worlds Tallest Wooden Building......

Norway plans to construct a wooden building 17 stories tall with carbon neutral construction techniques. The building is a cultural center for the nation’s northern coast. It will house a library, a theatre, and art studios in it’s approximately 10,000 square metre interior space. The idea is to construct a building which will be CO2-neutral, where the concept of the cycles of nature will be preserved. The innovative solutions used in modern wooden construction will stand as a token of the level of competence in the region, says architect Reiulf Ramstad. As far as we know, the record for tallest wooden building in the world is held by the 43m tall St Georges Cathedral in Guyana.

Engineering Trivia Boeing "Wing in Ground" Technology

Boeing has recently taken interest in the WIG (Wing in Ground) phenomenon and proposed a concept for a massive craft to meet a US Army need for a long-range heavy transport. Called the Pelican, the 500 ft (153 m) span vehicle would carry up to 2,800,000 lb (1,270,060 kg) of cargo while cruising as low as 20 ft (6 m) over water or up to 20,000 ft (6,100 m) over land. Unlike the Soviet concepts, the Pelican would not operate from water, but from conventional runways using a series of 76 wheels as landing gear ! One cool plane....

Check Out The Gun!!!

Have a close look at the picture below. Taken on the Streets of New York - only in America would you find a retail shop handing out plastic carry bags looking like this. It leads an inquiring mind towards all sorts of rude carry bag ideas and perhaps there is a market here. It is quite effective, now where can I get some of these!
