Customlight Introduces the Knobby Knife

Customlight is always on the lookout for new technology and innovative ideas. We have secured the rights to distribute the "Knobby Knife" in New Zealand. Imported from the USA this is a unique 240 volt version specifically designed for Australasia. In brief this knife heats to extreme temperatures and is designed to sharpen your tyres - all trail bike riders will appreciate this instantly - a sharpened edge is like a new tyre so you save about $150 every time you sharpen the rounding edges on your tyre. I ride a KLX450R and know only too well that a tyre lasts about two trail rides and then the edge is rounded and traction becomes difficult. This product will be arriving in November - watch ths space! Oh, and by the way, I've got the first one.....

Engineering News Rockets can run on Toffee......

An engineer at the University of Hertfordshire helped to demonstrate to BBC 1’s "Bang goes the Theory" audiences recently that rockets can run on toffee.
Ray Wilkinson, Principal Lecturer in Aerospace Design and Rocket Propulsion at the University Wilkinson, worked as a consultant to the show and developed a hybrid rocket motor fuelled by toffee to power a bicycle which can reach speeds of thirty miles an hour. All of the important safety and performance testing was carried out at the University of Hertfordshire, and the team also used toffee to power a railway trolley which can reach speeds of 150 miles per hour.

Ashford Light in high demand throughout NZ

The Ashford light fitting as pictured below is a signature product for Customlight Engineering in many ways. With a strong lighting history this product is one of the more recent designs and has attracted much attention in recent times not only in commercial aplications but also in residential homes. Measuring 700mm across and 110mm deep this subtle yet striking fitting works well as a effective wall light, and as a decorative feature light. Finished in silver powder coat, or in stainless steel depending on personal choice.....illuminates through ice white opal top and bottom.

Engineering Trivia Falkirk Wheel in Scotland.......

The only rotating boatlift in the world, the Falkirk Wheel was constructed to connect the Union Canal with the Forth and Clyde, restoring the waterway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The series of locks that had once linked the canals had been demolished and boat traffic had ceased. The wheel consists of two steel arms, each of which holds a water-filled gondola into which boats can sail. As the wheel revolves, so do the arms, raising and/or lowering the boats 82 feet verticlly to connect between the two canals. Eight hydraulic motors provide the 1.5 kilowatts of energy needed to turn the wheel and support the gondolas plus water plus boat -- up to a maximum of 400 tons. Amazing - I cant help but think there must have been as easier way - like walking the 82 feet required perhaps...

Have a close look at the photo below - this was taken on the West Coast of the South Island - and no it's not a doctored photo! So can we assume the nightshift forecourt attendant is unhappy in his work and enjoys getting into mischief, or is it a brilliant marketing strategy - I would stop to buy gas just so I could take a photo of this - superb! And believe it or not the photo below was taken just up the road - now being a betting man I would wager it could be the same person responsible for both of these marketing initiatives....
