Customlight sees a few trailers on the horizon for 2010.......

It's been a while since we talked about trailers. The photo on the right is a large and seriously engineered trailer built for a variety of purposes. The difference is this unit is built from 50mm Bondor Panel so it's super insulated. The chassis is built from 75mm x 50mm x 4mm box section steel - so many trailers are built cheaply by utilising 3mm - no shortcuts taken with this unit.
Currently residing in Lyttelton as a mobile coffee shop this project was the first of a long line of enquiries from people wanting a mobile premises. It seems that there is a trend for this type of unit - probably to combat tough times - so people want to be able to relocate themselves easily. That's what I call meeting the market !

New Twist on Parking the Family Car.....

The latest from Germany - and one can begin to understand why they lost the war when you see things like this. Designed, apparently, by Volkswagon this parking facility is used to house factory built vehicles and test products at a private manufacturing plant in Germany. A couple of alarming things come to mind - like getting out of your car and plummetting 150 feet to your death, or perhaps engaging 1st gear at the wrong moment and suffering a similar fate. And then there is the matter of there being only one lift... and what about toilets? As for health and safety - they must have been at morning tea when this idea was thought up; nice colour though.

Grand Canyon Sky Walk

The Grand Canyon Skywalk is an architectural marvel. The Skywalk was completed in March, 2007 after 2.5 years and 30 million dollars worth of hard work and engineering. This structure weighs an astonishing 1.571 million pounds, and was built to withstand an excess of 71 million pounds in weight on top of it. (That’s the equivalent of 71 fully-loaded 747 airliners piled one on top of the other!) This amazing ability to withstand weight as well as the forces of nature is due to the Skywalk’s 2 inch thick steel frame which is designed specifically to flex in the heat, cold, and wind. This frame is anchored to the Grand Canyon by casens and micro piles measuring 46 feet down into the solid bedrock. The specially-made German glass which forms the platform for our guests to walk the experience also plays a big part in the durability and beauty of Skywalk. Each of the 46 panes forming the walkway are made of 5-layers of glass bonded together and laminated, weighing in at 1,200 lbs a piece, and making the glass incredibly strong while still providing a crystal-clear view of the canyon below.

Japanese Bosozuka Car Culture.........

Bosozuka are street hooligans in Japan. They usually stick to motor bikes, but they also do some crazy things to cars. Rating high on the ridiculous scale is this image below. Some of these cars are just plain impossible to drive. How exactly would you drive this anywhere with even the slightest degree of safety, or coolness for that matter.
To make matters worse it's painted brown and cream.... perhaps I'm missing something somewhere....or am I just plain old fashioned ?

Come On NZ !

At Customlight Engineering we have been working very hard over the last 12 months to diversify and strengthen our ability to make just about anything - and it's working well. We have been involved in commercial projects including airports, hotels, hospitals, casinos and shopping malls, while in the background we have continued to design and build the very smallest of niche products for a huge range of varied clients.

We would like to offer a royalty incentive to all our customers and friends. If you have something you have thought about building but just didn't know how to - we can help by designing and manufacturing - we can then market and pay you a handsome percentage, or simply manufacture and supply you at a wholesale price - and you know it's New Zealand made which is important!

Surviving the recession is all about working together and keeping it in NZ! So feel free to contact us with the weirdest of enquiries - and we will do our best to help out.
